Fort Lauderdale, FL (December 18, 2017) – For many families who are healing from the damaging effects of domestic violence or have family members who have been victims of human trafficking, the holiday season can be bleak. South Florida nonprofit No More Tears planned a very merry surprise for 60 victims of these horrific crimes – a holiday party on Sunday, December 17, 2017, from 3 p.m. – 5 p.m. at Temple Kol Ami Emanu-El (8200 Peters Road, Plantation, FL 33324).
“The holiday party allowed children of victims to enjoy good food and a day filled with laughter and fun, away from abuse,” said Somy Ali, founder of No More Tears. “The holidays are the most special time of the year when kids get to be kids. We wanted to make sure that those who are often forgotten have that magical holiday experience that comes only once per year!”
Dr. Robert Bass’s children planned this year’s holiday party. Children ages 2 to 17 received gifts donated by the community. They also enjoyed interactive games, a magician, pizza and delicious holiday treats.
“Dr. Robert Bass of Plantation volunteers with No More Tears by providing free gynecological exams to the victims we serve,” said Ali. “We are so grateful to the Bass family for their help and support in organizing this holiday event – we couldn’t do what we do without volunteers like them.”
Celebrating its 10th anniversary, No More Tears is a nonprofit organization founded by former Bollywood actress Somy Ali. To date Ali and her volunteers have helped nearly 6,000 victims start a new life, one free from abuse. Miami is currently ranked third in terms of the highest volume of human trafficking cases in the U.S. To learn more about No More Tears and how you can help visit www.nomoretearsusa.org or call (954) 324-7669.
