Fort Lauderdale, FL (January 31, 2017) — In January 2017, Joyce Mealey was selected to serve as program co-chair of Emerge Broward, one of Broward County’s fastest growing young professional organizations. Mealey, a public relations manager at Conceptual Communications, will serve as Emerge Broward’s program co-chair for one year.

“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to serve in this leadership role and connect with so many like-minded young professionals here in Broward County,” Mealey said. “My goal is to help Emerge Broward expand its membership base and ensure that every member has the opportunity to further connect with their community and peers.”

Founded in 2007, Emerge Broward was specifically designed to help young professionals ages 21-35 develop leadership skills through networking, community involvement and educational opportunities. It strives to achieve this goal through four different committees: Engage, Connect, Develop and Identify. Since its founding, its membership has grown to more than 500.

A member of Emerge Broward since January 2016, Mealey, along with co-chair Elkin Alfred, will be responsible for overseeing the leadership of the organization and acting as liaisons between Emerge Broward and the Leadership Broward Foundation.

“Our whole team is so proud and supportive of Joyce,” said Laurie Menekou, president of Conceptual Communications. “She is volunteering her time to strengthen our community and help foster the careers of young adults in Broward County.”

In her role as a public relations manager at Conceptual Communications, Mealey manages media relations for a diverse group of more than 15 clients.

Mealey moved to Fort Lauderdale in January 2015 from Orange County, California, where she worked as a media relations representative in the music industry. Her passion for working with young adults began nine years ago while running several programs for the Boy Scouts of America, including leadership camps, summer camps and camps for inner-city students.

“Helping young people achieve their goals, that’s been part of every job I’ve had,” Mealey said. “It’s something I enjoy doing. A lot of young people know where they want to go but need some help navigating the path to get there. If I can share the things I’ve learned and help in some way, that’s amazing.”
