Fort Lauderdale’s most eclectic water taxi company, the Fort Lauderdale Water Shuttle, known for its hot pink boats adorned with pink flamingos, is utilizing its “pink” presence to help a Fort Lauderdale-based nonprofit kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The Water Shuttle will host “Boating for Breast Cancer” on Saturday, October 1, 2016 and donate 100 percent of daily ticket sales to Gilda’s Club South Florida!
This affiliate of a national nonprofit organization, is named after Saturday Night Live (SNL) comedian Gilda Radner and wife of the beloved late Gene Wilder, offers free social and emotional support to individuals and families touched by cancer.
“Teaming up with Gilda’s Club South Florida to help raise funds for cancer is an honor, not just for the Water Shuttle team, but for our community at large,” said Karly Young, Operations Manager. “Unfortunately, cancer can touch anyone, and the support Gilda’s Club provides is crucial to the betterment of so many individuals and families here in South Florida.”
This partnership comes at an integral time for both organizations. The Water Shuttle is hosting its official launch in conjunction with raising funds for Gilda’s Club South Florida, and, coincidentally, the shuttles are pink, the symbolic color for breast cancer awareness outreach.
The Water Shuttle transports passengers to eight different stops and one whistle stop along Fort Lauderdale’s New River and Intracoastal Waterway. Shuttles operate daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. All shuttles have awnings for shade cover and every passenger is offered free pink lemonade when they board. An all-day ticket allows passengers to hop on and hop off at any stop along the route.
“Gilda’s Club South Florida is incredibly honored to have been selected to partner with Water Shuttle to kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month,” said Kim Praitano, CEO, Gilda’s Club South Florida. “We hope that during this special day and month, we can continue to spread awareness about breast cancer and the free cancer support services Gilda’s Club offers in Broward County, so that no one faces cancer alone.”
Tickets for this event can be purchased on October 1, 2016 at the Water Shuttle kiosk located on the Riverwalk (located in Riverfront) at 300 SW 1st Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301 or onboard the Water Shuttle. Only tickets purchased in person on this day will have 100% of the proceeds be donated to Gilda’s Club South Florida. An all-day hop on hop off pass is $20, senior citizen and military tickets are $18, and children under 12 cost $10 (children 4 and under ride free).
