Fort Lauderdale, FL (January 23, 2018)  Broward families are in critical need of more affordable housing. For the 7th consecutive year, First Presbyterian Church of Fort Lauderdale is hosting the Bike to Build event,on Saturday, February 16, 2019, at 7:30 a.m., to raise funds that will help church volunteers build a new home in partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Broward. 

“For more than 20-years we have brought our community and congregation together to build homes for Broward families in need,” said Kathy Craven, member of the church’s Habitat for Humanity Steering Team. “Funds raised from this fun family-friendly event will go directly to the build site and we hope to see more participants than ever!”

The bike ride kicks off at 7 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Fort Lauderdale (401 SE 15thAve., Fort Lauderdale) and will head east along Las Olas Boulevard. The 25-mile ride continues north on scenic A1A, turning around at the Hillsboro Inlet. The 50-mile ride continues north, turning around at Linton Boulevard in Delray Beach. Bikers on both routes will then ride back along A1A South to Las Olas Boulevard and complete their ride at the church. Post-ride, there will be a delicious brunch for all participants at the church from 8:30 a.m.  to 11:30 a.m.

A minimum donation of $100 per person or $500 per team is required to participate in the 7thAnnual Bike to Build event. Register for the event by visiting http://bit.ly/BiketoBuild19

“Our goal is to raise $70,000 to begin construction,” said Craven. Once the funds are raised, Habitat for Humanity of Broward will organize a family selection process, with a set range of criteria, to determine which family will receive the brand-new home.
