Stamford Food Waste
CHALLENGE
The Stamford Food Waste Program is a citywide initiative designed to reduce food waste sent to landfills by encouraging residents to participate in a free residential composting program. As the program continued to grow, the City needed to increase resident awareness, drive participation, and build a scalable communications strategy that aligned with both grant milestones and operational capacity.
The challenge was twofold: educating residents on the environmental and community benefits of composting while creating a seamless path from awareness to participation.
CORE STRATEGY POINTS
- Developed an integrated communications strategy to increase program awareness, drive resident participation, and support long-term behavior change.
- Created a resident-centered engagement framework that aligned messaging, outreach efforts, and digital touchpoints throughout the participant journey.
- Leveraged data and performance insights to inform communications decisions and optimize engagement over time.
THE SOLUTION
Implemented a phased, multi- channel communications strategy across social media, email marketing, community events, and digital infrastructure to increase awareness and encourage resident participation in the composting program. The strategy combined educational storytelling, community engagement, and data-driven decision-making to build long-term program adoption.
The Results
Established the foundational marketing and digital infrastructure needed to support continued resident engagement and program expansion beyond the grant-funded period.
